Frome Symphony is an exciting amateur orchestra for Frome and the surrounding area of North and East Somerset. Founded in 2001, our main purpose is to provide enjoyment and musical enrichment for players and audiences. We are self-funding, and benefit from established support in the local community, with regular capacity audiences, a thriving "Friends" scheme, and sponsorship from local businesses. We organise three or four events each year including traditional classical programmes, family concerts, children's workshops and open rehearsals.
Mark Gateshill has been Frome Symphony’s Music Director since 2009. Mark has extensive professional experience as a conductor, player and music teacher, and is involved in a wide range of musical projects in the area.
Our members are of all ages and include professional musicians, experienced amateurs and players who are new to orchestral playing. We aim to provide a friendly, supportive environment in which members can learn and grow as musicians.
We currently have vacancies for string players (including double bass), horn, bassoon and trumpet. There are no auditions, so if you are keen to play in a symphony orchestra and have reached an appropriate standard on your instrument, or are re-starting after a break, do give it a try. If you are interested in joining, please contact us at enquiries@fromesymphony.org.uk for full details.
Rehearsals are held in Frome on Monday evenings during school term time.
