Frome
Symphony presented a concert for Families at the Cheese & Grain,
Frome on Wednesday, 21st March 2007.
The
main attraction was Orphie's Journey a new musical written
for children's choir, soloists and orchestra by Stephen Marquiss.
A large
crowd turned out to see Frome Symphony join forces with Oakfield Middle
School Choir to perform songs from this new work.
The
audience were also treated to other orchestral favourites as Barber's
Adagio for Strings, The Can Can from Offenbach's
Orpheus in the Underworld. There was dancing in the aisles
during the Suite of Scottish Dances by William Alwyn, and
Frome Symphony were ably assisted by a small junk percussion section,
played by an enthusiastic bunch of children. A slide show took us
through the story of Gounod's Funeral March of a Marionette.
Presented
by Frome Symphony's Principal Guest Conductor, David Hynds, the audience
were taken through the daunting world that is classical music with
humour and dancing!
