Welcome to Frome Symphony
Next Concert
Saturday 17th March, 7.30pm St John's Church, Frome
Sibelius: Finlandia
Mendelssohn: Overture - The Hebrides
Bruch: Double Concerto for Clarinet and Viola,
(Soloists: Claire Hawkes and Iona Hassan)
Nielsen: Symphony No 1
Following on from the Sibelius symphony in the December concert, we continue the season with a programme which explores the nationalist music of Finland and Denmark respectively, with Sibelius’s popular tone poem “Finlandia”, and a rare chance to hear a performance of the first symphony by Carl Nielsen.
Max Bruch is nowadays known predominantly for his first violin concerto, but he composed a number of equally significant works which deserve to be heard more often. To help put this right, soloists Claire Hawkes and Iona Hassan will join Frome Symphony to perform Bruch’s Double Concerto for Clarinet and Viola.
Pre-concert talk at 6.30pm by Jonathan James.
Tickets £10 (full), £8 (concession) available from the information centre in Frome Library and online.
